Hi. I’ve been your ss. I’ve been the “forgotten” child. Sucked, caused a huge riff between my family, i’m now twenty and just now starting to have a relationship with my dad and stepmom. never talked to my siblings until now as well because I resented them being born because i was under the mentality that they took my dad away. Sure, not the best, most progressive or understanding mindset, but i was a child. just like your ss. Really messed me up mentally. From what it sounds like, you’ve isolated your ss the same way my sm did to me. No wonder he doesn’t want to spend time with you! For the reasons you listed, you understand he doesn’t wNt to be there but you’re doing nothing to change that. Shame on you, from my core. Your willful ignorance to the very obvious solutions to fixing your ss relationship is shameful. Believe it or not, it is easy fixes that go a long way. I know your ss wants to come over to see his father but the only reason he isn’t because his home life (and you) make him feel like he’s a burden. Do you really think a 12 yo moans and groans on vacation because he’s just a spoiled brat? he’s twelve homie. There’s underlying reasons that you are aware of but too comfortable in the way things are to admit. You’re willingly traumatizing a child and ruining his childhood relationship with you, his father, and his siblings. keep it up and he will resent you forever.
