Thoughts on Tariffs?

32yo American here. I'm not an expert in this stuff so please be kind if I get something wrong but.... I just watched on the World News that Trump ordered a 25% Tariff on all goods coming into the U.S from Canada and Mexico, and an extra 10% for China. A new car will cost an average of $3k more as well. Trump stated it's to "punish them", but ultimately it's American consumers who will pay the price (literally). I'm worried and have so many questions: How long will this last? Any opinions on what to expect? Besides grocery prices, what else will go up for American consumers?
