Inheritance?

Hi, help 😭

So, I'm working on a new story after having abandoned yet another that I got too bored with, lol. But regardless, the story is meant to start with my character, her parents, uncle, and close cousins going to read their grandfather's will.

MC is supposed to get a majority, including a house (preferably in a way that doesn't take most of her cash in taxes) a piece of land with a run down old factory on it, and like- half a mil.

I really don't know how wills are supposed to work at all though, and Google is not helping me at all. How much would I have to give to ensure no legal battle ensues? Would a legal battle be better for the story?
