attic insulation guard question
i am nearing completion on my wood stove install and the one piece i have yet to purchase is an attic insulation shield. Question is - am i better off going with a typical store bought model (i.e. https://www.rockfordchimneysupply.com/products/rock-vent-attic-insulation-shield ) or, what if i were to build a square pipe chase from 1/2" hardie board (using metal studs) that enclosed the pipe all the way up through the attic? my concern is that if insulation does somehow get blown around and comes in contact with the chimney pipe above the insulation shield? And also i've got an inspection to pass and i'm planning on adding this to my homeowners policy so wondering if this would even pass?
my install is pretty typical - us stove co TH100 (interested to see how this little guy works)// 6" single wall pipe // flat ceiling support box through 2x6 ceiling joist // switch to 48" class A double wall pipe straight up through the attic into the roof /
my attic is filled with old blown-in cellulose insulation. FWIW i've got a few bats of roxul safe n sound kicking around i could surround with as well if you though that would help.
i'm really not trying to cut any corners and $$ is not the issue here, just wanna know your thoughts on what is safest. $$$wise it be kind of a wash on materials vs timed saved anyways (store bought shield is kinda pricey but installs quick, pipe chase is relatively cheap but would take a couple hours and be a pain in the ass)
thanks for any input!
