9/11 memories?
I’m taking comfort in the memories that are shared on other subs about the WTC and think it would be therapeutic for us to share those unique DC 9/11 memories here.
I remember coming into my office lobby just around 9 near Farragut to see the TVs on and colleagues gathering in stunned silence. After a little time staring, feeling pressure (?) to start work, and going back to my desk to tap into Yahoo - in horror, about the reports. The office closing, but knowing that my fiancée and I couldn’t drive out of DC because it was that kind of apocalyptic traffic scene with everyone trying to leave at once. Walking down L street looking for a place to wait it out. Everything closed - people running, and being told that other planes were coming our way. Rumors about the State Dept being hit. Seeing the smoke from the Pentagon. Taking refuge at the Mayflower. Finally leaving town, with tanks on the street corners. Eerie, sad, terrifying.
