Vancouver teachers, how is this pay livable?

Background: from Ontario (have teaching credential), been in the US for a decade+ doing grad school and now looking to leave (for obvious reasons) to teach in BC.

Having a hard time to figuring out how salary scales to cost of living in Vancouver. I have a PhD so I was told I would start somewhere not-at-the-bottom of the salary grid. I'm mostly looking to teach in private schools.

Even then I'm having a hard time figuring out how the salary squares with cost of living. All the salary grids max out at about $109,000, which seems a bit painful to top out at that salary while rents are like $3000/month for a condo? (I'm also like converting this all back to USD as a comparison and it's just insane! That's like $70,000... as a ceiling!)

Any current teachers have any informal info or thoughts to share on this? TIA!
