Thrustmaster t150 notchy/clicky force feedback. Hard to make small adjustments when steering.

I recently got a Thrustmaster t150 for ATS and ETS2, and it has been a very underwhelming experience. The wheel feels terrible when steering small amounts, which is a problem because that's what you are doing the majority of the time in these games. I understand that the notchy-ness of the wheel is because it is gear driven, but it feels so much worse in truck sim than it does in other games like farming simulator or racing games. It's hard to explain, but when I turn the wheel a slight amount, I can feel the normal notches of the gears, but then it feels like the force feedback tries to kick in and causes a strange and unpleasant clicky feeling, like the gears are slipping or something.

I've tried tuning the force feedback settings, but the only way to mitigate the issue is to turn down the force feedback gain to the point where it barely does anything. Does anyone else have the same wheel and/or has this problem?
