Sniper Thoughts Ahead of Midseason Rebalancing
At the beginning of the season, there were rumors of a buff to the SR-84. As someone who has played it a bit (my SR-84 is level 5, mostly because it's not bad if you play it as a shotgun with dash in quick cash) the sniper rifle SHOULD NOT BE BUFFED.
While it's true that the sniper isn't very competitive in ranked, that DOES NOT MEAN IT NEEDS A BUFF. If anyone reads this, the problem with the sniper is that it's too easy for someone to be a complete nuisance with it while simultaneously not contributing to the game in any way.
If the sniper gets changed, the best change would be to increase the damage to 120 (from 115) but make it a projectile the whole way. Then it would at least require skill to be a nuisance with.
Right now it's the only weapon in any game that I can think of that fires a hitscan that then becomes a projectile mid-flight.
Simply changing it to a projectile the whole way would fix the biggest issue with the sniper--dickheads who chase kills by abusing the hitscan range. There is nothing more annoying than being killed in a way that required very little skill to perform. That's the entire problem with the stun gun--it allows players to accumulate kills without an investment of skill. Hitscan snipers are the same way.
Being clicked on from halfway across the map isn't fun at all, because it requires zero skill to perform, and the 40m of hitscan makes leading shots very difficult to judge, because you have to lead your shot as if you were firing from 40m out, rather than from where you actually are standing.
I would actually play the sniper more often if it was just a projectile (removing the hitscan range altogether) because then it would be so much more rewarding to use.
Also, thank you to anyone who read any part of this ramble.
