Why we established this subreddit!
Hey besties. This is Kaitlyn here. I just kind of want to cover why we created this subreddit, r/teenpoll.
Us mods are free speech lovers and we love to create polls and have great discussions about a wide variety of topics, wether its just everyday things or politically related subjects, because we believe one of the core tenants of upholding democratic values is to TALK. Communicate. Freely, without a fear of backlash.
When we saw the r/Teenager_Polls mod post, rightfully many people were outraged. It basically equivalated conservative/right leaning persons who support Trump, Farage, AFD, and other rightwing political groups as extremists who simply spit bigotry, on thin ice for getting banned, and implied them to be Nazis and invoked Hitler. Then at the end they signed it off with saying that we should read 1984. I have personally read it, and what I can tell you is this: likening people to enemies that should be banned from communicating at all for simply personal beliefs is quite literally authoritarian.
Now taking into consideration the overton window, and how in past years things shifted significantly more far left, with the right become what was previously more centrist, we can naturally expect that their definitions of bigotry and what should be banned is not agreeable with what the majority of the United States of America voted for, what a strong portion of Europe supports, and the post 2024 shift towards the right.
That being said, I (Kaitlyn) am a conservative. I am a Trump supporter. I have mixed thoughts about whatever the hell confusing European politics. I support the Canadian PM-Hopeful Pierre Poilievre. However, I am from a literally majority liberal area in California, so I am certainly used to people with different views. I got used to having to pretend I believed in something I do not. Online things are different, and I firmly believe wether on X or on Reddit as we are now, everyone is entitled to express their personal beliefs in an appropriate manner and not be silenced for it. Quite the contrary actually- us mods are searching for liberal and left-leaning users also willing to moderate and help make this subreddit a good place. So let's agree to disagree on our views.
We will NOT ban people with different views. Feel free to like, dislike, comment what you would like as long as it is respectful, considering this is a teen sub, with users ranging from 13-19 years of age.
On a final note, if you would like to contribute or give feedback to us, we now have a form anyone can fill out to do so (google form): https://forms.gle/UDXgiaH3Dyr9NyGz9
