Last ditch effort post, Starcraft 2 keeps crashing something

EDIT: POTENTIAL FIX FOUND. Installed MSI afterburner and turned down both clock speeds as low as it let me. No crash in 15 campaign games and 10 coop games.

GTX1070, i7-7700k, Win10

Hello, for months I've been having an issue where I try to play Starcraft 2 and something crashes shortly after. I've posting on /r/starcraft a few times to no avail. I'm posting here as a last ditch effort with little hope left.

Description of problem

This issue occurs only during coop and campaign games. The game runs fine until all of a sudden, both screens go black and display "no signal" message. The computer is still running, the keyboard and mouse still work and the sound still works. I can even still restart or shutdown the pc with keyboard shortcuts (win+x, u, u or win+x, u, r). The crash/error occurs less often during coop games but very often during campaign games.

No other game in any situation causes this issue.

Attempted solutions

None of these solutions have worked completely

  • Restarting pc

  • Resetting settings

  • Reinstalling both Starcraft 2 and the blizzard launcher

  • Running Starcraft 2 as administrator

  • Running Startcraft 2 in compatibility mode

  • Changing priority in task manager, under details

  • Updating drivers

  • Reinstalling drivers

  • Updating windows

  • Physically cleaning the pc and checking for bad wiring or connections

  • Checking temperatures

  • Disabling the firewall

  • Changing affinity, changing the number of cpu cores Starcraft 2 can use

  • Lowering graphical settings

  • Disabling sound (this has temporarily worked for coop games but the issue is still there and the solution has no effect on campaign games)

  • Making sure the game runs in 64bit

  • Changing startup settings under msconfig and task manager, NOT recommended

  • Restarting windows services, NOT recommended

  • Playing in windowed, borderless and fullscreen

  • Checking crash logs for anything specific (only shows the effects of forcing the pc to shutdown)

  • Changing monitors

  • Benchmarks perform as expected, no issues

There were likely more attempts that I can't recall at the moment.

Conclusion

Please help. I've tried literally everything. Read through dozens of reddit posts, blizzard forums posts and online guides on how to fix this problem. Nothing has helped or even given me a clue as to what the problem actually is. A number of people report a very similar problem to mine but they haven't found any solutions either. I am at a loss of what to do now short of accepting that a 10 year old game should not run on my computer.
