When you live in an area mentioned in a Stephen King novel...
I just read Firestarter for the first time, and the first chapter is titled "New York/Albany." I live just north of Albany so I was interested to see how it fit into the story. He was correct in that the Albany Airport is located in the town of Colonie (pronounced kahl-uh-NEE) and that the area was once Shaker country, and that the north/south highway (Interstate 87) near the airport is called the Northway. Once they leave Albany, however, then things start getting made up- there is no place known as Hastings Glen, and 15 miles north of the Airport is basically where I live. Most of the other town names are made up as well, except for Lowville (Pronounced with the "Low" rhyming with Cow) Still, it's always fun to feel like you're "in the know" when you read something like that. Just thought I'd share.
