Nam-Gyu (Player 124)

In my personal opinion it’s quite obvious there’s a lot more depth to this character than meets the eye. He presents himself as the timid sideman, but the idea going around that he was “loving off of Thanos” is just completely untrue. We see Nam Gyu visibly annoyed whenever Thanos is engaging in conversation with anyone else (e.g semi) which is down to his fear of losing control. Thanos is essentially Nam Gyu’s mouthpiece, allowing for him to sit back and without having to do much work, recognising an influential idiot he leeches on to him which we know happened before the games. Nam Gyu refers to the players as cockroaches, asking “how many roaches do you think are left” post the 4 legged race, alongside disregarding thanos’ dead body and going straight for the drugs shows his dehumanisation of people. Playing right in to his superiority complex as before killing semi he asks the rhetorical“You think you’re better than me?”, the question being rhetorical as this scene is through the lens of Nam Gyu, he knows (believes) he is better than her (everyone.) He definitely is not going to have any kind of redemption arc, and without Thanos to play puppet master with it’s likely we’ll see him spiral especially since now he’s in possession of the drugs
