How did you guys ski your first double black diamond?
Did you take lessons to lead up to it? Drop in with friends? Slowly work your way up on your own? I'm trying to figure out how to get to that level of skiing because I can almost comfortably ski blacks now and put in a lot of practice when I'm on the mountain especially since this year was my first time going out west and seeing terrain like this, but I don't get a lot of skiing days per year. It seems like this is the kind of terrain that most skiers love most and I can imagine getting there one day but not without encouragement or help. When I see stuff like that now I think he'll no but I see people skiing it online and it seems like most people have worked up to it. I recently got into mountain biking and there are double blacks on that but if things get too crazy you can always dismount and walk parts that get too gnarly. Not the case with skiing. So, wanted to hear from the community.
EDIT: Wow, did not expect this level of response! Love some of these stories keep em coming! Couple of things I'm seeing I might need: 1. Get better skiing buddies. I was introduced to skiing by my wife who had been skiing since she was a kid but quickly surpassed her since she sticks to green runs and groomers, and I don't want to push her where she's uncomfortable.
Definitely need to ski more, I know, but I make as much out of every trip as I can. Might get to move out west for a year for work so crossing my fingers for that one.
I do still enjoy every run I get on the mountain but when I see the ski map I always want to do EVERYTHING there even if it isn't what I'm prepared for or will necessarily enjoy. But don't think I'm cruising down blues thinking how bored I am, any run and any day on the mountain is a good day.
