First time I get a bitter roast

I tried to go lighter than usual, and I am getting, for the first time since roasting, real bitterness. Does that mean underdeveloped? Or maybe just the bean not suitable for such a roast degree? It was a natural brasilian as an experiment. I went into first crack and then took them off while it was cracking.
