Where’s all the ammo

I’m keen to get good with guns so I can more likely clear areas rather than slogging away for days and weeks on end with a variety of short blunt weapons but I can’t find any ammo anywhere. I’m playing standard Apocalypse and I started in Echo Creek and moved in to Ekron. I’ve survived a month and I’ve looted probably around 50 homes and all I’ve found is about four boxes of ammo for different weapons. This is Murica, there should be loads of guns and ammo right? And don’t tell me to go to Guns Unlimited. I went there and promptly turned around again
