The eternal debate: sling vs backpack

Basically title. Do you prefer one over the other? Find yourself jumping between the two? I've always been a backpack guy, mostly because it's so versatile. Yes it can carry my camera and an extra lens or two, but I can also bring my laptop if I think I'll need that later in the day. It also holds my ZOOM recorder, a water bottle, an extra sweater, whatever.

On the other hand this can be a little bulky sometimes. Half of my trips outside the house don't require me to bring anything other than my camera, and at times like that it would be nice to have something small that I can stow away more easily. Heading in to a restaurant or museum with a 40L THULE in tow can be clumsy, whereas a sling easily fit under a chair or even just stay on your person. They're a bit more elegant. It's also nice being able to grab your camera so quickly, assuming it isn't already around your neck.

What's your preference?
