Can we still build civic pride? If so, how?
I’ve lived here for 15 years now and still am occasionally surprised by how hard and loyally we root for our sports team while still allowing our parks and streets to get trashed, weeds to grow out from the sidewalks in front of our houses, our neighborhood RCO meetings to be so scarcely attended, our public schools to be what they are, etc.
Is this just how life in the poorest big city in America is? What would have to change for people to start caring about our city enough to change their behavior?
(Pic is of Athletic Rec, where there have been kids day camps, baseball and football practices, and Heyday soccer games for 2 weeks while the beer cans and other trash just sit there untouched for the same amount of time. Probs doxing myself but I did pick it up after taking the photo.)
