I finally understand.
So I recently started playing this game a few days ago. I tried playing it a couple times before and couldn't get into it. I've heard over and over, "Oblivion is better than Skyrim." Or "I wish Skyrim was more like Oblivion." And at first I was like yeah whatever. The game with people who look like potatoes couldn't be better than Skyrim, and what's cooler than being Dragonborn? I thought this for the longest time until I decided to buckle down and seriously play this game.
Needless to say my opinion has changed significantly. Where do I even start? The world itself makes me feel more involved. People greet you and ask how you're doing. Their attitudes change if you speak to them with a weapon drawn. The magic system is leaps and bounds better than anything Skyrim has to offer. Leveling up my character and their skills feels more rewarding and opting not to level up just feels like a breath of fresh air. The game doesn't punish you for going at your own pace and rewards you for getting stronger and fighting more powerful enemies.
I know I just listed a ton of things that everyone here likely knows, but I just love this game and I understand why a lot of people hold it as a Gold Standard for an Elder Scrolls game. I genuinely hope that TES 6 is a lot more like Oblivion because this is easily one of my favorite Bethesda games now.
Thank you for reading my rant. 🙂
