Two weeks notice or just leave?
I’m in the middle of a situation with my job and could use some advice on how to handle my resignation.
For months, I’ve been dealing with broken promises, gaslighting, and unreasonable expectations. For example, I was told I’d get mileage reimbursement when I took the job (I drive over an hour to work three days a week), but that never happened. When I’ve brought it up, they act like I misunderstood or that it was never offered in the first place. This kind of thing has been happening repeatedly.
Recently, I got sick and asked for a little help with ONE task so I could manage my workload while not feeling 100%. Instead of getting support, I was told to just "push through it for the business needs." They wouldn’t offer any assistance and seemed to dismiss the fact that I was unwell.
To top it all off, my boss had me working alone in a warehouse breaking down shelves—physical labor that wasn’t in my job description. When I questioned it, they pulled the “other tasks as assigned” line to justify it. It’s been one thing after another, and I’ve finally had enough.
I plan to submit my resignation tonight, but I’m stuck on whether or not I should offer them two weeks' notice. On one hand, I want to be professional and give them time to transition, but honestly, I don’t think they’ll even take it. They’ve been so dismissive of my needs that I feel like they might just tell me not to bother coming back after Monday anyway. Mind you, I’m scheduled to work on call this weekend and I want the overtime pay.
So here’s my dilemma: Should I offer two weeks' notice, knowing they probably won’t care, or should I just be done on Monday and move on? Part of me feels like I owe it to myself to cut ties quickly, but I also don’t want to leave on bad terms if there’s a chance of a smoother exit.
Any advice or similar experiences would be really helpful right now.
TLDR: My management at work has been absolutely horrible, gas lighting, broken promises and callous interactions. Should I smooth things over with a smooth transition or just cut my loses?
EDIT: I work in healthcare as an orthotic fitter and I have a bachelors degree. Hence, why breaking down heavy 7ft tall shelves ALONE then, being gaslit when I share my concerns isn’t something I’m cool with. I put my two weeks in and I hope they just cut me lose Monday. My issue with this company stems from constant poor communication and bad leadership. I shared my concerns numerous times and they don’t care to address them. The company culture is awful and I want out- simply.
