Private chef kept deposit after canceling due to “dangerous weather”
We had a private chef cancel on us due to weather they said would have been too dangerous for them to drive in. The weather was indeed bad and they would have had to drive up a mountain but the roads were not closed. I understand canceling for safety reasons but they kept the deposit because they had already bought the ingredients. There was no written agreement or implication that they would keep the deposit if they were the one who canceled. We paid them on Venmo. This is not a friend, acquaintance or a scammer as they have a website, many positive google reviews and a modest but seemingly loyal instagram following.
Anything we can do about this or are we just out of luck?
Location: CO but we do not live there
