Surprising Lancaster things to transplants

To any transplants out there - was anything surprising or jarring to you when first relocating to Lancaster? Two things stand out to me:

  1. Ending a sentence with: “a while”. As in: “here’s your change a while” meaning “here’s your change and your drinks/food will be ready in a minute”. It absolutely threw me for a loop.

  2. Tomato sauce on cheesesteaks. Still haven’t tried it, so I’m reserving judgment, but this confuses the hell out of me. I grew up in South Jersey and have lived all over the country and have never seen/heard of this before. That said - it looks delightful, just… different.
