Best tools for sock knitting

I’m looking to try knitting my first pair of socks and am looking for which tools seem to be the best since there’s so many options. The yarn I have is a size 1 and recommends 2.75 mm gauge needles. I’m leaning towards buying 2.75 mm, 40 cm circular needles. Is this a good way to go? or should i go for a shorter length like 32 cm or shorter? should i size up or down in needle gauge based on what the yarn recommends??
