Sexism in the medical fraternity

I, a post MBBS doctor (F) , went to the Ortho dept in a reputed hospital for LBA. It was a follow up so this doctor knew I was a fellow doctor as well. My dad had accompanied me this time and the whole time, he only looked at my dad and talked to him. Didn't look at me once, even though I was the patient AND more qualified in the field than my father. Even when he looked at me while I was telling him some relevant history, his replies were always directed to my father.

He was also condescending to me and dismissed a few of my complaints. I felt horrible and infantalised. Ik medicine is pretty sexist towards women in general but it really puts things into perspective when it's happening EVEN when the woman is a doctor herself.

Doctors really need to let go of their biases and work on their soft skills. I hope you gain something from this incident and always make sure you talk TO your patient, irrespective of who else is present in the room. Your patient is the one dealing with the disease, not anyone else.

Has anyone else dealt with a similar situation?
