NYC points stay advice
Hi all, we're looking for an IHG hotel for four nights (we’ll stay at Indigo Williamsburg for two nights at the start of the trip and then move to Manhattan). Two of us, don’t mind a small room, but do want something clean and comfortable. We’ve been to NYC many times, so don’t need to do all the tourist stuff, but do like being well connected in terms of public transport.
We’ll be spending a good amount of time going to galleries in Chelsea, and often end up around LES or West Villagefor meals and drinks.
We have whatever meaningless platinum status you get from having the IHG card, but not top tier status, so things like elite breakfast benefits aren’t relevant for us.
Any thoughts welcome, it’s a bit overwhelming! Here are some places I'm thinking about, I’ve included the price/night in case that makes any difference (fractional pricing is due to 4th night free), and please let me know if there's one I'm missing.
- Kimpton Eventi (65.5k/night) seems to get raves here, reviews on Google are mixed though and it’s the most expensive option we’re looking at. Is it really worth it?
- Voco Times Square South (51.5k/night)— no, I don’t want to stay in Times Square, but looking at the map I’m wondering if they are stretching the definition to try to get tourists, and it’s far enough away from the chaos to actually be OK? We’ve enjoyed a Voco stay in Paris, and I’m guessing it is a newer property, but not a lot of reviews.
- Indigo LES (48k/night)— love the location but keep reading about the nightclub, which fills me with horror. We are past clubbing age and while being OK with normal city noise, can’t imagine dealing with dance music keeping us up all night for four nights, right? Seems like you might get lucky with a room away from the club, but no guarantees, and that would spoil the trip for us, I think.
- Indigo FiDi (46.5k/night) or Indigo Wall Street (42.5k/night) - Several posts about both lower Manhattan Indigos, although some reviews seem to confuse the two, not sure if one is better than the other?
- Holiday Inn Express Chelsea (50.25k/night) or Holiday Inn Chelsea 6th (45.75k/night)— We’ve stayed near here at the Hyatt House and it’s a decent location, good transport links and easy to get to galleries, but the reviews on Google for both of these are off putting (dirty towels, cockroaches, lifts out of order, and these are recent enough reviews that they would take the remodel into consideration)
