Ibs disappearing with diet?

I’d put on a couple of pounds and decided to calorie restrict the last two weeks. I’m healthy BMI but am getting a little close to the upper end. I’ve knocked off a couple of pounds by under eating I guess. I’m hanging out around the 1000 calorie a day mark (this isn’t long term, just in the lead up before the gluttony of xmas - I am not promoting under eating at all).

An unexpected side effect of this is my ibs symptoms have disappeared (incredibly painful stomach spasms and bloating). I felt so brave I’ve added things back into my diet which I previously thought were an irritant (the whites of spring onions, garlic, satsumas) with utter success. Prior to this, my ibs has been the worst ever this past year, multiple triggers, I can’t pinpoint the exact culprits, many ‘safe’ foods had turned against me.

My meals are much smaller and I’m leaving longer times between eating. Can anybody explain why this way of eating is improving my ibs?
