Front lines and fallback lines are just annoying, can I play without them?

I can't micro at all, my units just randomly run around these lines.

It sort of sucks cause I was hoping I could pull off like cool battle plans and then just watch them unfold, but it seems the game is just way too buggy for that.

Am I doing something wrong or is it actually ok to just play with literally 0 orders and just microing your army?
