The Driver started to make sense after I found this video

Hey,

I am one of those golfers who tries to just play irons the whole way round in order to try to just keep it tight. This hasn't worked out that well for me because I'm taking so many more shots that I am bound to duff one sooner or later and on some courses, not getting the distance off the tee gives you awful lies for later shots.

I've basically resolved to sort out the driver (and I guess woods off the tee at the same time) in order to simplify the game for myself a bit. What drove this decision was finding this Danny Maude live lesson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLdxGaYGGKI&ab_channel=DannyMaude

He breaks down the setup well in a way that changed the whole way i thought about it. I realised that I was standing too close and, more importantly, that even after lessons I was gripping all of my clubs too high in the hand. Lastly, I was still trying to baseball swing at the ball and getting one hell of a slice.

Taking these learnings to the range today, it took some time to dial it in but eventually I was hitting the majority of my shots within the 'fairway' zone and over 200 yards. I also did a 9 hole afterwards (maybe a bad idea as I was pretty tired) and was able to hit 2 driver shots off the tee. One of those went 200 yards (only for me to mess it up with a 3 putt) and the other I hooked but still went a good 150 yards and stayed in bounds.

Hopefully other new golfers might find this video illuminating.

Cheers
