What is the "most RPGest" RPG you ever experiened?
RPG can be defined in many ways, for the purposes of this question, here's mine:
- As much freedom as possible to play a role you wish to – not just in terms of your build and personality, but also how you can interact with the world: NPCs, quests, activities, story.
- Can I role play as a baker samurai who arms himself with the baguettes he makes (ok, doesn't have to be this ridiculous, but you get the idea).
- As much freedom as possible in making choices, and these choices having real consequences.
- Can I kill the main quest giver in the village? If I do so, will the other villagers still treat me like nothing happened?
- A big'ish world full of possibilities and freedom of movement would be a plus
- But a "living" world is more important than "the biggest" or "the openest"
In your opinion, what RPG comes closest to meeting these criteria? In terms of actual gamer experience, not marketing.
Any video game era, any system, any GUI, any style, any lore - orcs or space marines or pirates, I don't care.
