For the uninitiated... who are these people you enthusiasts keep referencing?

Let me just start by saying... this sub is fantastic. Even though I'm not an enthusiast by any means, the information and discussion here is oftentimes very compelling! I really enjoy it. This is what Reddit is about.

But... for the uninitiated, who are these people you keep referencing? Here is what I think I've pieced together.

Jack and Ivy (FireFly Lights aka FFL)

Simon (Convoy?)

Hank (Emisar?)

Who are they? I assume they're designers. Are they westerners that outsource their manufacturing to China, because I also assume all of these lights, budget, enthusiast, or otherwise are manufactured in Asia, right?

Just asking so I can better follow along with the banter.
