How long do 18650s hold up not cared for?

I used to be into vaping, but didn't bring it with when i moved. The other day it was pointed out that i could use possibly use those batteries for something like flashlights. Basically my question is if batteries that have been sitting for years are worth anything, they were higher end at the time lg or sony? Whichever one's were green when Panasonic's were still new and hard to get.

I guess regardless if they hold up, what would peoples recommendations for an 18650 light? Primary focus edc, so durable, lighter weight, and minimal upkeep. Easy recharge and secondary things like use as a headlamp are nice but not required.
