Do people exhibit different personalities than their usual ones under stress or during fight-or-flight situations?
For context, I’ve mostly tested INTJ for the last 8 years with exception to a few time when the results have come out as ENTJ, I’ve tested with various testing affiliations, had discussions with multiple professionals and every time it has been INTJ or ENTJ. I’ve high extraversion than a typical INTJ and do love to work in teams.
Recently, the test results came out as ENTJ right after a particular high-stress situation, then after some self-introspection I could see how I behaved more as an ENTJ than my usual INTJ self, and all that got me wondering what the title says.
In retrospect, Ti might have dominated over Te during that time. I usually delve really deep with my research so as to have no room for doubt whenever I’m dealing with something, while this sure takes some time, the ‘Perfectionist’ in me feels accomplished.
I’d to prepare a 100-slide presentation to make from scratch for a potential hot-shot client about a field I’d absolutely no idea in like 5 hours and needless to say there was no scope of any error. Started off quite slow, perfecting everything to the ‘best’ I could but it was just too much work. So, I inadvertently switched my approach to settle with the ‘second best’ (still being completely thorough) but at a much faster pace to get it over with and then, coming back to improve upon the slides I felt could be improved further. The presentation went great! But this experience got me thinking about Core and Mask personality types.
This is how I see it, INTJs are know to have a depth-first approach while ENTJs have a breadth-first approach. This set of complimentary skills is great to have at a job I work at.
Do other ENTJs also exhibit this type of temporary personality morphing during certain situations?
Do you believe in the concept of core and mask personalities?
