AITA for expecting an apology from my husband.
Earlier today, my husband hung up on me while walking into work. He says he was fiddling with his earbuds and it caused his phone to hang up. I asked him to next time, just shoot me a text and say sorry, didn't mean to hang up. Call you later, or whatever. He then insisted that HE didn't hang up on me because HE didn't mean to, so why should he say sorry.
Now I get that this sounds super petty on my part, it's just that for 8 years, this has been an ongoing theme. We've had the same discussion when he has broken something of mine, misplaced something, stepped on my foot... if it's not intentional, he says that means he didn't do it. I've tried explaining to him that whether he meant it or not, it still happened. I've also tried to explain that I'm sorry basically means I didn't mean for this thing to happen, I will try to prevent it in the future. To me, this is the same as if you bumped into someone or had a car accident. Mean it or not, the other person is affected, and that still deserves an apology.
I've always seen this as a matter of courtesy and respect, but I'm asking all of you because maybe I've just been told a strange meaning for the word sorry. Am I the asshole?
