Seeking advice on transitioning from QA to dev role
I recently graduated from college and joined a company through an internship program that transitioned into a full-time role. During the internship, I was assigned to a role unrelated to development, despite my background in computer science.
I repeatedly requested a change in my role, but my manager either delayed responses or denied the possibility of a switch. Even after my conversion to a full-time employee, I was stuck with repetitive, manual tasks that offered no growth or learning opportunities. The work environment became increasingly micromanaged, with constant demands for updates.
I've decided to take charge of my career, but I'm unsure if my plan is the right way forward:
I’ll continue working diligently and avoid any complaints until the end of the year.
In my free time, I’ll focus on learning DSA, ML/AI, and upskilling myself.
By year’s end, I’ll start applying for roles more aligned with my interests, presenting my skills and projects in those areas.
Once I secure a new job, I’ll resign from my current position during the notice period.
Does this sound like a reasonable approach? Should I adjust my plan?
