I wish diwali was associated with paper lanterns instead of crackers.

Can you imagine what the night sky would look like when thousands release paper lanterns simultaneously into the sky? It won't be short of a dream.

There would be no noise, no pollution, just, beauty. I am aware of the waste it generates but still it's better than what happened yesterday!

Diwali used to be my favourite festival. I loved the lights, the candles, the rangolis. Crackers too, till a point. But now it feels like people are just trying to one up each other, to see who can come the closest to an actual bomb in terms of noise.

There is a house behind mine where only elderly people live. I kept seeing them getting agitated at every loud bomb. I was getting jumpy from the explosions, can't imagine what their weak bodies are going through.

And the dhol! I was alone at my whole flat and the noise was so high that if anyone decided to break in no one would have been able to hear it. The cool people with their dhols out in the street at midnight, drunk and creating a ruckus for everyone, thank you for degrading the religious festival to your late night insta worthy parties. No one enjoyed it except you, but you don't care right?

Doesn't matter if it's illegal to play loud music after 10-11 pm, your loudspeakers and dhol won't stop because fuck the law and fuck anyone's health conditions, right?

The worst part is, you have an option to be civil and keep it to your house but you won't choose it, and people with health issues have no where to go in such hazardous conditions.

But hey, Happy Diwali!
