No Father’s Day?
My spouse thinks it’s important our nuclear family (boy 5; girl 3) celebrate Father’s Day if only to demonstrate to the kids how to properly observe this holiday. I’m reluctant to observe this holiday because 1) I don’t feel I’m a particularly good dad, 2) she periodically criticises me as a father and a man in front of the kids, and 3) my kids say I’m the sad parent. (Please assume her criticisms are valid for the purpose of this post.)
Given these facts and feelings, I prefer we do not observe, much less celebrate, this holiday. My spouse says canceling Father’s Day deprives the kids an opportunity to learn how to observe it. I think my spouse has a point, but it also feels performative.
