In defense of Funeral Bell

Funeral Bell is the new standout most hated card in the game, providing 170 points out of pocket in one turn with -40 permanent power dished out to four cards in your opponent’s deck. Basically a hammerhead shark and an identity theft popping at the same time.

Funeral Bell, however, is no stronger than the top burst cards in the game, cheaper maybe, but Funeral Bell isnt the reason you keep on seeing Funeral Bell, its all the deck-building cards with dead easy parameters like cao pi and bothriolepis that are to blame.

When the best deck in the game allows you to throw all of the best burst cards from every album into a deck with 3-5 deck-building cards with free parameters, why wouldnt you always use the strongest LoL burst card!? Back when the meta favored collections more, you’d never see this same repetitive deck because people wouldnt have the space in their decks to throw in every good burst card.

Nerfing funeral bell just gets it replaced with a slightly weaker LoL standalone like sherman. Meanwhile an interesting up-and-comer collection like funky fungi takes an unnecessary hit, which in turn makes under the microscope take a hit, given its synergy with Fungi.

Targeting the standalones in the annoying autotune deck just makes a slightly weaker autotune deck, all the while the actual collection decks that will eventually dethrone autotune once again are taking unnecessary hits left and right. Same thing happens with a barnum nerf, you do not target the root problem while setting back hoaxes and cons, a strong collection, which in turn sets back Occult, another strong collection.

The meta is a pendulum that swings between favoring collection-based decks and standalone decks. The best way to swing it back around is by targeting cao pi, sigium dei, and bothriolepis. All three can be stacked with zero issue and give strong cards like Goose and Funeral bell +53 until played, completely stupid that collection based decks would be expected to compete with that given they dont get the choice of the best standalone cards in the game as burst options.
