Recommend me an indie title!

I'm roughly 5 years into my comic reading era and 6 months since I started a pull list at my LCS (albeit a small one). The MCU piqued my interest in comics, and most of what I read initially was inspired by those stories, e.g. Planet Hulk, Infinity Gauntlet, Secret Wars, Civil War, etc. I've also read a number of popular Batman runs in trades, like Long Halloween, Year One, Killing Joke, and Scott Snyder's early New 52 stuff.

As I've started to follow more creators, I've realized that there is a pretty clear line between "fan" stories and original creations. I would really like to add at least one indie book on my pull list this year, but since I don't have a starting point for the characters, I'm not sure where to begin.

What I'm looking for (I think):
* Not Marvel or DC * Original, or at least not major IP characters * Relatively early in its run, maybe issue #5 or earlier coming out this month * Quality artwork; nothing takes me out of a comic story quicker than cheesy or bad art * Not a lot of gratuitous gore or nudity

As far as story genres go, I'm generally open to most action/adventure, comedy, satire, etc. I'm not looking for pulp or horror.
