Game mechanic concept/idea: Assassinations
Last time around when I was playing Civ, I came to the idea of how cool would implementing assassinations be as yet another game mechanic! I feel like, historically, assassinations were too influential of an element to leave out of the game and could make it even more immersive and complex. Obviously, in order not to be game-breaking, the mechanic would have to be very deeply thought out, together with other mechanics already. Or perhaps you could choose whether assassinations are allowed before the start of a campaign.
I imagine that it would be a subset of espionage. You could either try for assassinations of Great People to weaken the opponent, or try to go straight after the leader, a very risky operation with a potential of very high reward. On the other hand, in order to not get the short end of the stick, you'd have to implement security measures and some kind of secrecy and confidentiality practices to decrease the risk of becoming a victim.
At this point I'm just thinking out loud, but I feel like such a feature could be pretty smoothly implemented into the way the game functions now, and could add even more gameplay depth and immersiveness.
What are your thoughts? Would you welcome such a feature in, say, the upcoming Civ 7 game?
