cmv: Cigarette commercials should be allowed (US)

If the idea is to ban the bad influence of cigarettes because of their health risks, then alcohol commercials should also be banned.

According to the National Center for Drug Abuse Statistics, there are about 95k alcohol related deaths annually. Or car commercials.

Another point, if the goal was to stop smoking related deaths, it clearly hasn’t helped since its ban from the Nixon Administration in 1970. According to the CDC, 480k Americans die annually from smoking. The number one leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States.

If the government really wanted to prevent smoking, there should be stronger anti smoking(and vaping) campaigns in school.

Why should smoking ads be banned, when that is clearly ineffective in preventing deaths, while other fairly harmful substances and products are allowed to advertise freely?
