Wood choice for bathroom cabinets with semi opaque stain.
I have been asked to make some shaker style bathroom cabinets that will get a semi opaque grey stain. I don't have any experience with any semi opaque stains and typically my projects are either natural wood or fully painted. I am leaning towards either birch or soft maple for the look being requested. Pine would also fit the room, but I despise working with it. Appreciate any feedback on wood selection or finish products that will be successful.
Probably not relevant to the question, but cabinets will be face frame with partial overlay doors/drawer fronts. Couple of faux live edge shelves and a framed mirror will also be made for the room with matching wood and finish. Probably topcoat with satin General Finish HP or Watco lacquer as I have had good results with both.
