Did anyone else not grow up in a cultured family and only ever watched trash

I'm perplexed when I listen to Griffin and David talk about what they saw growing up, and the discussions they had with their parents about film and art. I don't come from cultured intellectuals, so I bristle listening to Blank Check a lot of times, maybe out of jealousy. My family just considered me strange for the movies and music I liked. I remember when Death To Smoochy came out and I went by myself to see it, and my family was literally like "what's wrong with you, why do you want to see that?" And that movie isn't even weird, it's not like Solaris or something. My father was also actively hostile toward people who read and enjoyed art.

Anyone else relate?
