Are epidural steroid injections worth it?

I am scheduled for the procedure in a week and I was looking into it. I found that there can be rare but severe side effects. Does anyone have experience with this procedure and is it worth it?

13 years of lumbar pain and sciatica. Osteoarthritis, mild stenosis.
