Rationalising these apparent targets
I am struggling with the logic of us actively going after any of Felix, Asensiao and Rashford. In all 3 cases the wages are surely high. And we sold Diaby - a player who had a solid platform to kick on from - for not much profit just to clear down the wages as Damian V explained. Also with the wages, this can have knock on effects to wage expectations of current and future players which in aggregate make a big impact to costs.
Aside from the wages, their ages mean we will see limited sell on value. And they are also big risks in terms of ability to perform. Felix less so I appreciate but still a risk.
With our careful PSR and UEFA wages ratio balancing act on which the club have been so public, I simply don’t understand the logic on these three. Maybe as it’s January the fact they have availability pushes them into the mix.
Rougher diamonds in late twenties who Emery can improve I understand, but not at the costs these guys come with. I’d expect us to focus on those and early twenties like Maatsen who we could reasonably expect to retain or increase in value after a few years.
These decisions over the Duran money are crucial as we can’t assume we will keep generating windfalls like his and Grealish. And we do need to keep improving to hold our own in the European spots which means needing to invest.
Just me? What an I missing!?
