[Post Match Thread] Olympiacos 2-0 Aston Villa (5-2) (Uefa Conference League)
I don't even know where to begin with this. We we're hopeful of a comeback, Villa played aggressively, we played high and once again El Kaabi broke our hearts as he scored in the opening 10 minutes. That basically killed any hope we had really. That was then a 3 goal margin. We didn't really create that much, some long-shots here or there. But it was clear, the team gave up. El Kaabi scored a second in the second half beating our high line to then make it 6-2 aggregate. We're out of Europe.
We can be proud for how far the team has come since Emery has taken over, but its clear as daylight that we've played a 10 too many games this season. We could not keep up pace and really no one one stood out. Credit to Emery for giving some of the youth players an appearance.
Europe is over. Despite this, it will have been excellent experience for all the players. We've seen how hard it is to play away, hopefully next seasons campaign will see Villa handle the pressures of the away fixture better. For now, the focus is on the league. Just one more win is needed from two games to secure Champions League. Otherwise we play in the next league over, the Europa League.
