Are vigils much of a thing here?

I’m not sure I could attend one without absolutely breaking - just watching/listening to a vigil for pigs arriving at a slaughterhouse made me cry so hard earlier tonight… but do we really have them here in the first place?

I only found out what a vigil actually was in this context today. Before I always thought it was more like a memorial.
