Old Lady wanted to dump her late husband´s old Hifi junk...
I work in a secondhand/antique shop. An elderly lady came to us yesterday and asked if we´re interested in some old hifi stuff from her late husband. It´s taking up space in her wine cellar (1920s townhouse with basement lined with bottles on shelves on two walls) and the stuff is already sitting there for 3 or 4 decades.
She wasn´t even sure if the things still work. So me and a coworker agreed to come over and have a look at it.
Today we arrived, i bumped my head twice on the low basement ceiling and took a closer look. Two amps, one AM/FM Receiver and two record players.
The old lady was happy that we took it of her and we promised that if we can make a profit out of these, we´ll get back to her.
So yeah, Cleaned off the two Marantz pieces first. Rubbed off decades old dirt, plugged them ino a power outlet, connected some speakers and guess what, they work. The speakers emitt some crackling sounds (nope, not from the record player). Maybe it´s the crappy speakers i used (some small no name speakers from a cheap old late 90s all in one stereo.)
The other bits are from Technics. Sadly the Technics amp doesn´t switch on, maybe it´s just a fuse, or maybe it´s a nice door stopper.
