Is refining worth without the city bonus?

I'm a solo payer returning to albion. Never really focused on a area of the game (curently enjoying Mist)... I'm thinking of trying gathering or refining, kinda just did it as a side gig till now.... I'm currently t6 on Wood, almost T7.... was wondering if you can still make decent profit without the boring transporting haul to thetford for the bonus if i start doing those hour long gathering sessions and just refining/selling in whichever city i happen to be near?
