Worried about UTI check-up revealing that I’ve had sex.

Problem/goal: I (18F) think I have a UTI and need to get it checked out, but I’m scared they’ll somehow figure out I’ve had sex during the check-up. This is my first time dealing with something like this, so I have no idea what to expect.

My partner and I are both 18, turning 19 this year. We’ve been very careful with protection and only have sex about 1-2 times every other month. We hadn’t had sex in a couple of months, but we did last Friday. That time, we ran out of lube but went ahead anyway, which caused some bleeding. At first, I thought it was my period starting early (it’s supposed to come this Thursday), but the blood seemed different—heavier and not like my usual flow. The next day, I had a fever and I started feeling pain when I peed, which made me think it could be a UTI. I told my family I got my period, so they told me to wait until it’s over before getting checked (I was too embarrassed to say anything else). Now I’m scared that when I go in, the doctor will somehow know I’ve been sexually active from the urinalysis or during the check-up.

I asked for advice or insight on Reddit, such as r/obgyn and r/WomensHealth, and they provided some advice. They agreed that I might have a UTI, but the checkup would be determined by the country I lived in.

Can they even tell if I’ve had sex just from this kind of test or examination? I’m super anxious and don’t know what to expect.

[UPDATE] I went to the hospital today along with my grandmother. The results of my urinalysis showed that the pus cells were TNTC, or Too Many To Count. During my check up with Doc, my grandmother insisted on going with me even though I explained that I wanted to be by myself because I am an adult and the room is private. (She forcefully went there inside so wala na Ako nagawa.) As I described my symptoms, the doctor simply asked if I was feverish and if this was my first time getting UTI, with no questions about any sexual activity. He told me na buti nalang nagpacheck up na ako kaagad kasi he warned me about sa nagfoform na NANA. After that, Doc gave me antibiotics and told me that if I had a fever for the next two days, we would come back to him.

I am just grateful to the people and experts who took the time to offer me advice. It means a lot to me, as someone who is still learning about these things. Being in this position is terrifying, but I courageously own up to my mistakes and am currently learning how to do better as a young adult. This time, I will make sure to use everything I have learned and exercise greater caution. Thanks again everyone.
