Being an actor in Sydney
I grew up in a small country town then got in to Drama school pretty much straight out of school. After graduating I signed with a smallish agent and moved to Sydney. I have been in Sydney for almost a year now and have had lots of luck with independent work and auditions I find myself, however, really struggling with auditions through my agent. I think I am being submitted and declined by CDs but not sure if my agent is even is submitting me. The auditions I have done, I haven't gotten any call-backs, even for commercials. I feel confident that my work is good, as I am being cast in almost every independent project I go for and have done some audition classes with top tier acting teachers who give me glowing feedback. What am I missing? Is it just the Australian Industry? I have little contacts as I grew up in a rural town and didn't go to Drama School in Sydney. How do I get CDs to take notice of me. Should I move overseas? I know I'm super early in my career and obviously the strikes have slowed things down for everyone but I am so driven and ambitious that I just am so eager to succeed.
