Just put my guns on consignment and sold one to the dealer but the FFL didn't run my serial numbers right away?

Is it normal for FFLs to not run serials before buying / consignment sales? The dealer paid me cash right away for a shotgun and then took my name, address and drivers license number on a piece of paper. I suppose they have my information if they were stolen or something (of course they aren't) but it was super fast like 10 minutes.
